Well I'll try 2 help if I can I'm new 2 Bloods but' U might want 2 talk 2 Sam or Suzy from "Cage Crafters" on here or try Kara "From Nerd" They are my mentors But' I'll take a stab at it here goes: Common Name: Sumatran Short-Tailed Python Scientific Name: Python Curtus Other Common Names: Black Blood Python General description: A snake of medium length with huge girth relative to its length. The head is long and broad and distinctly wider than the neck. The eyes are orange. Hatchlings are pale little brown snakes that strongly resemble their closest relative, the Borneo short-tailed python. As they mature, they turn into predominantly black snakes. Most adult specimens have black heads, but some have tan or red heads. Average adult size: 40"-66" Distribution: From western Sumatra and Lampung Province in southern Sumatra. This taxa may occur on several of the Mentawi islands off the west coast of Sumatra, but we have not seen specimens from those localities. We are told that this taxa occurs on Belitung, east of Bangka. Comments: This is the smallest of the three taxa in the curtus-complex. Sumatran short-tailed pythons are generally good natured snakes, particularly captive-bred specimens. They are hardy captives requiring little extra attention. A couple of years ago we received a wild-caught snake that had been brought to a skinning business in Sumatra, probably collected in the Lampung Province, that appeared to our eye to be a hybrid with a blood python. Recently, analysis of DNA did determine this to be the case. This snake is the first known example of this occurrence. As an aside we mention that the snake wasn’t particularly pretty, so don’t bother trying this at home. I cannot take credit for this I got it here: www.vpi.com/Default.htm
