Thought I'd share this with you all: For those of you that are not brand new to Pupdates, you may recall us mentioning that we were in the process of performing x-rays on a baby seal that apparently was struck by a boat on one of it's hind flippers. Thankfully the x-rays revealed that there was no bone break, although there was bone exposed and the wound was very severe and created a dangerous infection that we have been trying to battle. Because of the severity of the wound around the bone, the infection went septic. Septicemia is a serious, rapidly progressing, life-threatening infection that can arise from infections throughout the body, including infections of the bone. She is on the highest powered IV antibiotics available to help beat the infection. We have placed an IV catheter in her and she is on continuous IV fluids and medications 24-hours a day. We will continue to fight and do everything in our power to bring her through this. She is in critical condition. A photo of her is attached below, showing her IV and bandaged flipper.
